Favorites, sort of

So there's a LiveJournal meme going around asking people to list their favorite books, movies, and other things. I spent a bit of time trying to come up with ten in each category--I don't know whether that's because I have a really bad memory or because I'm a picky bastard.

As hard as this was, actually trying to rank them would be nigh impossible, so I've just listed things in each category alphabetically.

Favorite Books

  • Animal Dreams, Barbara Kingsolver
  • The Demolished Man, Alfred Bester
  • ElfQuest (books 1-4), Wendy Pini
  • The Falling Woman, Pat Murphy

  • Stoddard's Ale House (Campbell, CA)
  • Tampa Bay Brewing Company (Tampa, FL)

(N.B.: This should confirm that I'm not really a gamer! To explain the most obscure games there: "Santa Paravia" is a thematic predecessor to "Civilization" and, well, nearly all resource management games; "King of Dragon Pass" is a very unusual turn-based quasi-RP, quasi-strategy computer game set in the world of Glorantha from RuneQuest; and "Enchanter" and "Jigsaw" are both Infocom-style text adventure games, the first actually being from Infocom and the latter being a free game a few years back.)

*Favorite restaurants aren't necessarily the ones I consider the best restaurants I've been to, although some of the best ones I've been to are definitely on that list. Those who know me won't be at all surprised to know this one was difficult for me only in trying to narrow things down, and I might well do the list differently next week if asked!

  • A quick note
